BDD was 4 teams for football only, this merger of 6 into 3 affects all sports in the LPD not just one.
Actually the BDD has a couple of sports that have only had 2 or 3 teams in it.

And a sport next year will have only 1 team.

Fine... How about long-timer Eastern Shore? Brand new Massanutten?

So, Clintwood & JIB say it's unfair for THEM to lose 2 district opponents, and the VHSL skrews Castlewood, Ervinton, Rye Cove, Twin Springs & St. Paul? Thats 5 teams that lose 2 district games instead of 2. Well, guess that's a make-up for the Riverheads fiasco.
And, yeah, of course it's not been made public yet... the decision to close 3 schools was just made 24 hours ago. And we're in no hurry... fb districts mean nada now in Group A, and I don't think golf will be affected, so there''s plenty of time before the volleyball playoffs to figure out what's best for b'ball season.

I meant they were the only D2 in the Cumberland. They were already the largest, and they're getting bigger. Sorry bout that.

    Re: Schools Closing?

I actually believe you are seeing the end of the LPD.

Coeburn will stay in the Cumberland and JI Burton will move into the Cumberland.

Move Clintwood into the Black Diamond, that would make it a five team district (at least for a few more years because when ****enson County High School is built the Black Diamond will probably cease to exist).

Move Kelly and PV into the Clinch Mountain District.

Black Diamond won't die because it has all 4 Buchanan schools plus 2 Tigers

IDK I think we could see a region wide redistricting after the DC consolidation and/or tazwell/Richlands/Marion decide to drop to signal A

    Re: Schools Closing?

I think the Districts will still be too even. If Coeburn comes back to the LPD, like some are saying...

    BDD - 5 - 4 Buchanan & Honaker
Cumb - 5 - Castle, Twin Tom, Rye & JI Burton
CMD - same 5 as now
    LPD - 4 - 3 Wise Co. & D'son Co.

Marion would go to the Hogo, Tazewell to the MED. Now Richlands, IDK... they'd prob. get assigned to the BDD, but number-wise, they'd fit better in the LPD, which would give all 5 Districts 5 schools, although they could go to the MED since the other county schools are there.
If Burton stays in the LPD & Richlands is added, they'd have 6, the Cumb. 4, and 5 in the other 2.
Just looks to me like everything will work out naturally.

    Re: Schools Closing?

Coeburn does not want to go back to the LPD and some of the principals of LPD Schools have been lobbying trying to get Lee in their district. Lee does not want to move to the LPD, wants to stay in the Clinch.

Has the principals been chosen and also when will we expect faculty to be notified whether or not they got a job next year or not?
